PM Aziz briefs President on Afghanistan trip ISLAMABAD, Jan 05 (Agencies): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf at the presidential camp office in Rawalpindi and updated him about his recent visit to Afghanistan. The president made it clear that fencing the border with Afghanistan is aimed at controlling cross border movement and tightening security. "We have taken the decision after consulting the authorities' concerned and all our allies," he added. During the meeting the two leaders also discussed the overall political situation in the country. Musharraf said the parliament would complete its tenure and the election would be held on time. He said that he would decide about his military uniform in line with the constitution and would take a decision on it at an apropriate time. (Posted @ 18:30 PST) Pentagon names new top generals for Iraq, Central Command WASHINGTON, Jan 5, 2007 (AFP) - The Pentagon on Friday said it was replacing the US generals in charge of Iraq and crucial Central Command, in the latest step of a shake-up of senior US diplomatic and military personnel. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he would recommend that General George Casey, commander of multinational forces in Iraq, be replaced by Lieutenant General David Petraeus. He also proposed Admiral William Fallon to succeed General John Abizaid as commander of Central Command. Casey will become Army chief of staff, Gates said in a statement. Eight killed in Iraq attacks BAGHDAD, Jan 5 (AFP) At least eight people were killed in attacks in Iraq on Friday, a security official said. Five people were killed and 15 wounded when four mortars fell into Zafaraniyah neighbourhood in southern Baghdad. In another attack northeast of Baghdad, three Iraqi army soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb blast. Bush will also be naming next week the current US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, to the top diplomatic post at the United Nations, a senior State Department official said Thursday. Bush agreed with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki Thursday that there must be "sufficient" security forces in Baghdad, the White House said. Bush also told Maliki that he did "the right thing" by ordering a probe into the footage of Saddam Hussein's execution, which has sparked international concern, said spokesman Tony Snow. The two topics arose in a one-hour, 45-minute teleconference. Also, after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel Thursday, Bush said that Saddam Hussein's execution should have occurred "in a more dignified way" and called on Iraq to fully investigate what happened during the hanging.
