PM Aziz to visit Afghanistan amid border mining row ISLAMABAD, Jan 3 (Agencies) Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will visit Afghanistan on Thursday for talks with President Hamid Karzai, the foreign ministry said. Aziz would "review all aspects of bilateral relations" including the holding of jirgas, the ministry's spokeswoman, Tasnim Aslam, told a briefing Wednesday. Aziz told a press conference in Karachi Wednesday that Pakistan would go ahead with its plans to mine and fence the border at selective points. The decision to fence and mine the frontier had been taken to check cross-border movement of extremists, he said. Tasnim termed a recent US think-tank report regarding Pakistan's violation of human rights as baseless, saying that everywhere in the world there are human rights violations including the US, and claimed that Pakistan has taken various steps improve its human rights record. Tasnim informed that the Indian foreign minister, Parnab Mukherjee, would come to Pakistan to extend an invitation for the third round of the SAARC summit. No deal with PPP: PM Aziz KARACHI, Jan 3 (Agencies) Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said that 2007 will be the year of continuity of ongoing government policies and reforms. The prime minister analyzed the achievements of the present government during the year 2006 and its plans for 2007 at a news conference in the Governor House. Aziz rejected the possibility of any deal with the Pakistan Peoples Party. "I am reading news about the deal too. But I want to make it clear here that the PML will contest the next general elections along with its coalition partners, and get success on the basis of its policies", he said. Asked whether the next elections would be held under a uniformed president, Aziz said "any decision in this regard will be taken in accordance with the constitutional requirements". Asked whether there was any chance of the return of former prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, Aziz said "this is the matter of law". Answering another query on whether he would contest the elections from Thar, he said "it will be announced when the elections come nearer". He dispelled the impression that there were any differences within the PML(Q) over the nomination of the prime minister for the next term, saying "I am saying the same what Chaudhry Shujaat has said. The decision about the new prime minister will be taken after elections by the party". (First Posted @ 16:45 PST Updated @ 21:55 PST)
