SHIKARPUR: Tribute paid to Shaikh Ayaz

SHIKARPUR, Dec 30: The ninth anniversary of renowned poet Shaikh Ayaz was observed at the press club here on Saturday under the aegis of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat.

Dr Anwar Figar Hakro was chief guest at the function which was presided over by Dr Zulfiqar Siyal, secretary-general, SAS.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Siyal, Dr Hakro, Dr Abdul Khaliq Raaz Soomro, Rahim Bukhsh Jafri, Mumtaz Mangi, Zia Shah and others shed light on the life and literary services of Shaikh Ayaz.

They were of view that on the one hand, the poet encouraged the Sindhi people to love their motherland and fight against aggression committed by selfish and opportunist powers and, on the other, preached international brotherhood.

They said that Shaikh Ayaz would live in his poerty forever.

The participants through a resolution pledged to launch campaign for the establishment of a university and construction of a monument in Shikarpur, dedicated to Shaikh Ayaz, and to constitute a Shaikh Ayaz Mazar maintenance committee to look after his grave.

TRANSFERS: District Police Officer Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh has transferred and posted nine police officers on administrative grounds.

Inspector Mumtaz Ali Khuhro and DSP Ali Mohammad Shahani have been posted as TPOs of Shikarpur city and Khanpur, respectively.

Sub-inspectors Ahsan Bharchundi, Rahim Bux Jafri, Karim Bux Lakho, Islam Jatoi, Munir Ahmed Guriro, Jamil Abbasi and Faheem Mahar have been posted as the SHOs of Dakhan, Khanpur, Gaheja, Naparkot, Mian-jo-Goth, Fatehpur and Tajodero police stations, respectively, whereas the SHOs of the police stations have been transferred to other places.
