Elements opposing enlightened moderation destined to fail: Musharraf ISLAMABAD, December 21 (Agencies): President General Pervez Musharraf Thursday said all elements opposed to enlightened moderation will face failure in the future. "The retrogressive elements opposed moderation and enlightenment at every critical juncture of the history but they faced defeat always…these elements also opposed the creation of Pakistan and remained against Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal", he said in an address to the concluding session of the All India Muslim League Conference held here. Zil-hajj moon not sighted in Pakistan KARACHI, Dec 21 (APP): The Zil-hajj moon was not sighted in the country on Thursday. Pakistan will never hand me over to India: UJC chief ISLAMABAD, Dec 21 (Agencies): Chief of the United Jihad Council (UJC), Syed Salahuddin, in an interview to a private TV channel Thursday said that Pakistan will never hand him over to India since he is a Kashmiri citizen and not a foreign element. He reposed his full trust in the Pakistani regime, but categorically refused to trust India, whom he alleged of manipulating Pakistan's recommendations over the Kashmir issue for its nefarious designs. Saddam trial adjourns until January 8 BAGHDAD, Dec 7 (AFP) The trial of ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and six co-defendants on genocide charges against the Kurds was adjourned until January 8 after documentary evidence was presented Thursday. Turkmenistan president confirmed dead: state media ASHGABAT, Dec 21 (AFP) Turkmenistan's President Saparmurat Niyazov, 66, who ruled the gas-rich Central Asian country for 20 years, died of cardiac arrest early Thursday, state media confirmed. Three U.S. troops killed in Iraq BAGHDAD, Iraq, Dec 21 (AP) A bomb killed an American soldier and two other servicemen died from combat injuries in Iraq, the U.S. military said Thursday. One soldier died on Tuesday, and one Marine died Thursday from wounds sustained in Anbar province, the military said in a statement. Roadside bombs targeting police kill seven in Afghanistan HERAT, Afghanistan, Dec 21 (AFP) Four Afghan civilians and three policemen were killed Thursday by two separate roadside bombs aimed at police convoys in the latest violence linked to a Taliban insurgency, police said. A remote-control bomb hit the convoy of a border police commander on the outskirts of western Herat city as he drove to the airport, police said. In a similar incident in southeastern Khost province, a roadside blast hit a police vehicle in a crowded local market, a government spokesman said. Army steps in as Bangladesh strike turns violent DHAKA, Dec 21 (Reuters) Troops and riot police fought pitched battles with protesters Thursday as a strike aimed at forcing electoral reforms in Bangladesh turned violent. Witnesses said at least 25 people were wounded in the clashes that broke out in several areas of Dhaka, which is largely paralysed by the strike that has also affected business and transport across the country.
