PCB, England likely to settle money dispute
LAHORE, Dec 20: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is likely to settle the financial tussle with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and may not contact the ICC over it.
The two boards developed differences over payment of losses England had suffered due to Inzamam’s decision of boycotting the fourth Test against England.
Inzamam had refused to play on the fourth day of the final Test following ball-tampering charges by umpire Darrell Hair. As a result, the play had been abandoned and the ECB had to return money to ticket-holders and sponsors.
Well-informed sources told Dawn that the ECB did not contact the PCB on the issue after the latter had refused to pay damages amounting £800,000.
The sources said ICC’s decision to remove umpire Hair from the elite panel has weakened the case of the ECB.
The ECB, the sources said, had other options also to settle the issue, including a one-day match between the two countries in July when Pakistan and India will be playing a charity match in London.
