KATHMANDU: Nepal Maoist have threatened to enforce a two-day nationwide strike beginning on Dec 31 if the government does not revoke its decision to appoint 14 ambassadors to different countries, including India.
“The appointment of ambassadors, Constitution commissions, the transfer of civil servants and expansion of the police posts and the delay in arms and Army management was not only a violation of the agreement but also an indication of sabotage not to enact the interim Constitution and announce the date for the Constituent Assembly polls,” Maoist leader Prachanda said in a statement.
“If the government ignores our genuine concern, we will intensify our protests to exert strong pressures,” Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said.
The rebels have set a Dec 30 deadline to revoke the government decisions and warned nationwide protests. —Dawn/The Asianage News Service
