Bush sets conditions for Iran, Syria talks WASHINGTON, Dec 7, (AFP) - President George W. Bush said Thursday that Iran and Syria must stop helping extremists and commit to help Iraq's fledgling government before any talks with the two. OIC urges Iraqi clerics to heed Mecca pact JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Dec 7 (AFP) The secretary general of the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) called upon Iraqi clerics Thursday to urge their followers to respect an October pledge to refrain from shedding the blood of Muslims. Musharraf announces Rs. one billion for Quetta QUETTA, Dec 7 (APP): President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday at a public meeting here announced a Rs. one billion development package for Quetta, with Rs100 million each for the 28 districts. He also announced that seven new cadet colleges, two more campuses for Balochistan University at Gwadar and Turbat, would be established along with 1000 scholarships for Baloch students. He urged the Baloch youth to focus on their studies, seek higher education and work for the betterment of their country and families. He said that every village in Balochistan will get electricity by the year 2008. He said currently electricity from Iran was being supplied to Panjgur, Pasni, Turbat and Gwadar. He said new roads linking Loralai with D. G. Khan and Zhob with D. I. Bangladesh delays nationwide polls to January 23 DHAKA, Dec 7 (AFP) Bangladesh's next general election has been delayed until January 23, two days later than the date fixed by the election commission last month, an official said Thursday. ADB lends $510 million to Pakistan for renewable energy MANILA, Dec 7 (AFP) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said here Thursday that it is lending Pakistan 510 million dollars to develop renewable energy sources. The first project to be financed by the loan will be a set of small hydropower plants in the Northwest Frontier Province and Punjab. Suicide bomber attacks foreign troops in Afghanistan KABUL, Dec 7 (Reuters) A suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of foreign troops in Kandahar city on Thursday, wounding five civilians, police and witnesses said. Unknown gunmen shot dead the chief of Gulran district in western Herat province late Wednesday, while a senior policeman was killed at his home in neighbouring Khost province also Wednesday, officials said Thursday. South Korea equestrian rider dies at Asian Games DOHA, Dec 6 (Agencies) South Korea's Kim Hyung-chil, 47, died in an equestrian accident at the Asian Games on Thursday, organisers said.
