Iran to 'honour principles' of nuclear control treaty: Ali Larijani BEIJING, Jan 5 (AFP) Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said during a visit to China that Tehran will continue to honour the principles of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Xinhua news agency reported Friday. "Iran will still honour the principles of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and continue to seek a just and reasonable solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through talks," Larijani said Thursday while meeting with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, one of China's top diplomats. Dozens hurt in toxic leak at BASF chemical plant in Britain LONDON, Jan 5 (AFP) One chemical worker suffered severe burns and another remained in hospital after a toxic leak Thursday at a plant in northeast England run by German-based BASF, the company said. A total of 37 people were treated for burns and skin irritation after the leak at the coastal facility at Seal Sands on Teesside. BASF said it was investigating the leak of hexamethylenediamine, a chemical used in making plastics which it said was "corrosive and can be hazardous in high concentrations." (Posted @ 09:15 PST)

US nuclear weapons chief dismissed for security breaches WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (AFP) Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman on Thursday announced the dismissal of the head of the US nuclear weapons program after a series of security breaches and management problems. Ambassador Linton Brooks, administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), will tender his resignation to President George W. Fiji military chief and coup leader sworn in as PM SUVA, Jan 5 (Reuters) Fiji's military commander was sworn in as interim prime minister Friday by President Ratu Josefa Iloilo, exactly a month after his bloodless coup overthrew the South Pacific nation's government. Abbas, Haniya meet in Gaza, call for calm, pullback of armed men GAZA CITY, Jan 5 (AFP) Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas of Fatah and prime minister Ismail Haniya of Hamas agreed to "call for calm and the withdrawal of armed men from the streets" after a meeting here early Friday aimed at ending the deadly confrontations between the two groups, Haniya said. "We have decided to appeal for calm and for the withdrawal of all the armed men from the streets and to continue the dialogue," Haniya told journalists after his meeting with Abbas at the president's office in which two members of an Egyptian security delegation took part.
