KARACHI, Nov 20: Match-referee Khalid Niazi has imposed Rs5,000 fine on ZTBL captain Rao Iftikhar Anjum for his team’s alleged involvement in ball-tampering during a Patrons Trophy match against Customs at the NBP Sports Complex.
According to PCB media release issued on Monday, umpires had changed the ball and given five-run penalty to Customs on suspicion of ball-tampering when Mohammad Khalil was bowling on the second day of the match on Saturday.
The match-referee summoned the fast bowler on Sunday but found no evidence against him and cleared him of the charges.
But according to the law, the captain is responsible for change of the shape of the ball when no evidence is found against a bowler. Therefore, the referee fined ZTBL skipper Rao Iftikhar Anjum.
On Monday, Customs started their second innings on overnight score of 97 for five.
Opener Kashif Siddiq hit 77 with 11 boundaries. Hanif Malik also scored fighting 51 which included five boundaries and a six.
Controversial Khalil grabbed six wickets for 50 runs in 19.2 overs to dismiss Customs for 220. He finished with match figures of ten wickets for 88 runs.
ZTBL won the match by 174 runs.
