KARACHI: PA passes 15 bills, defers five in 70 working days

KARACHI, Nov 20: The Sindh Assembly, during its current parliamentary year, passed 15 bills and referred five to the concerned standing committees after completing its minimum requirement of 70 working days.
This was stated by Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmad while speaking at a press conference in his office after the session was prorogued.
He said during the year, out of 10 sessions held, five were requisitioned sessions and their all-out efforts were to carrying out maximum legislatives business so that problems of the people could be solved and relief could be provided.
He said that the treasury benches extended cooperation to the opposition by supporting their motions as was evident from the adoption of one motion and one resolution moved by the members from the opposition, but as they were in the public interest, they were adopted unanimously.
Law Minister Iftikhar Chaudhry, who was also present, gave the details of other business transactions during the year. He recalled that out of 11 privileged motions, three were referred to the privileges committee while 11 got lapsed. Likewise, out of 318 adjournment motions received, 44 were admitted while 274 got lapsed.
Similarly, out of 781 resolutions received, only one was passed while 780 got lapsed. However, the house also adopted eight resolutions which were moved jointly.
Sports Minister Qamar Mansoor referred to the attitude of the opposition members who at times even did not pay a heed to their leader, Nisar Khuhro, for maintaining discipline in the House so that the house business could be carried forward smoothly.
