KARACHI: Altaf tells workers to improve character

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 12: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has emphasised the importance of good character in an ideological movement and called upon all MQM members to become ideologically strong and be prepared to improve their character and etiquettes in order to further the message of their movement and bring about a positive change in the country’s current medieval system.

Speaking telephonically to party workers in Lyari and Ranchor Line, Mr Hussain said: “Our movement and struggle is for the right of common people and humanity. This is not for personal interests, but for collective goals. If we give priority to personal interests over collective goals, then we cannot remain steadfast in testing times.”

He impressed upon the workers that “if we are to challenge the medieval feudal system, then we must strengthen our ideological base and adopt a positive attitude. Every member must become a walking image of civilised and cultured person; our way of talking should create a positive impact on everyone… and we must always remember the basic aim of joining the movement.”

Mr Hussain pointed out that when an army operation had been launched against our movement on June 19, 1992, those who were in the race of personal interests had changed their loyalties, but the ideologically strong workers remained steadfast, faced the hardship and difficult times, endured incarceration, and even did not hesitate to sacri-fice their lives for the movement.

He asked MQM workers to acquire knowledge and follow the party’s policies, rules and discipline, and carry out self-accountability, instead of pointing finger at others.
