KARACHI: Probe into Urdu varsity affairs demanded

KARACHI, Nov 7: An emergency meeting of the Anjuman Asatiza held on Tuesday demanded probe into alleged malfunction of the Senate of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST).

The meeting chaired by Anjuman Asatiza president Prof Syed Asghar Ali also demanded that President Pervez Musharraf, who is also the chancellor of the FUUAST, should preside over the 10th meeting of the FUUAST Senate to be held on Nov 11 to review the irregularities in the Senate.

Various resolutions floated by teachers were approved at the meeting. It was decided that holding of Senate's meeting would not be accepted without participation of President Musharraf and two members of teachers’ association according to Article 17 of university's Ordinance.

The resolution that permanent senior teachers of the varsity should be appointed on all administrative posts including vice-chancellor was also approved by the meeting. It was also decided that the varsity administration should take action to control the interference of external elements into the administrative issues of the varsity.

The general secretary of association, Prof Syed Mohammad Murshid Raza, said that teachers would not accept the appointment of any external vice-chancellor and would start a protest drive if the administration did so.—PPI
