SCA: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has condemned an inordinate delay in the start of crushing season of sugarcane.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Sunday, leaders said that cane growers were ready to supply the crop to mills but they were lying closed despite the government orders.
The senior vice-president of the chamber, Mir Murad Ali Khan, presided over the meeting.
Te meeting appealed to the government to direct sugar mills to start crushing without any further delay.
It said that the sowing of wheat was about to start but there was an acute shortage of DAP and potash fertilisers.
It urged the government to show its existence and ensure the availability of fertilisers in the market.
The meeting said that one year back, the agriculture secretary had announced that farmers were at liberty to install tube-wells at their lands at half the price while 50 per cent would be paid by the government.
It regretted that many farmers had deposited Rs10,000 for the installation of tube-wells but even after the lapse of one year, these had not been installed.
It demanded that the government should implement its own announcement in this regard.
