Bumper prizemoney at stake in Pakistan Open Golf

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Oct 18: The Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) has made Pakistan Open — an Asian Tour event — more lucrative as US$250,000 will be at stake next year showing an increase of $50,000.

The Asian Tour which was revived after a lapse of almost a decade earlier this year runs either at Karachi Golf Club (KGC) or Arabian Sea Country Club (ASCC) in the city from Jan 18-21, secretary PGF Taimur Hassan told Dawn on Wednesday.

Accompanied by the PGF official, a two-member Asian Tour delegation comprising Douglas White and Irfan Hameed went around the two courses on Monday and expressed satisfaction pertaining to the playing conditions. The venue is to be finalised next month.

The Asian Tour representatives also called on PGF president Gen Ashfaq Pervez Keyani at Islamabad and discussed matters of mutual interest.

Taimur disclosed the visitors also inspected the proposed site allotted by the government for PGF Golf Academy in the capital and gave their valuable advice.

To be spread over 150 acre close to Islamabad Club the PGF plans to embark on the project soon aimed at taking the game to new heights.

The PGF secretary said Douglas, an American architect, will design the course while NESPAK will design the building. Secretary, Sindh Golf Association (SGA) Asad I.A. Khan, an avid golfer and architect associated with NESPAK, was also present on the occasion.
