Goods train detaches midway

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, Oct 1: Detachment of a goods train near Samasatta on Sunday disrupted down-country rail traffic.

According to reports received here, the Karachi-bound goods train split in two parts between Mubarakpur and Kalachanwala railway stations.

As the detached wagons blocked the down track, Khybermail, Jaffar Express and Allama Iqbal Express were halted at a number of railway stations for several hours.

A railway official said the goods train resumed its journey after reattaching the carriages. The express trains, he said, were also allowed to move after the track clearance.

STRIKE: A shutterdown was observed in Kahirpur Tamewali town to protest the alleged torture of Mulana Muhammad Ajmal by police.

Local retailers have meanwhile protested administration’s anti-price hike drive. They said that stockists and wholesalers were actually responsible for the upward trend in prices of essential items.
