KARACHI: Civil servants to get low-cost houses


KARACHI, Oct 1: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has enforced the Sindh Civil Servants Housing Foundation Ordinance for the establishment of a foundation which would help provide houses to the serving and retired civil servants on a ‘no-profit, no-loss’ basis in Sindh.

The ordinance read: As soon as may be, after the commencement of this ordinance, government shall establish a foundation known as the ‘Sindh Civil Servants Housing Foundation’.

The foundation shall be a body corporate, having perpetual succession and a common seal, with powers, subject to the provisions of this ordinance, to acquire land in accordance with law and hold properties, both movable and immovable, and may sue and be sued by the said name.

Government may, from time to time, transfer state or nazul land, free of cost, to be utilised for the purpose for which the foundation is established.

The Foundation shall have a Board consisting a chairman and directors as follows:-

a) Chief Secretary

b) Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Department

c) Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development (Ex-officio Director)

d) Senior Member, Board of Revenue, Sindh (Ex-Officio Director)

e) Secretary Finance Department (Ex-officio Director)

f) Secretary Works and Services Department (Ex-officio Director)

g) Secretary GA (Ex-officio Director)

h) Three civil servants of Sindh, one representing the civil servants in BS-17, to be appointed by government for a specified period.

Directors:

i) Three other persons as may be appointed by government for a specified period as Director

j) Managing Director of the foundation, who shall also be the Secretary of the Board.

A director, not being an ex-officio director, shall hold office during the pleasure of government.

Government may at any time remove any such Director during the tenure of his office in the prescribed manner.

A director not being an ex-officio director may, at any time, resign from his office.

A vacancy caused due to the death, resignation or removal of casual vacancy a director, other than an ex-officio director, shall be filled in by government through appointment of a person qualified to fill vacancy and such director shall hold such office for the un-expired period of the term of his predecessor.

The meetings of the Board shall be held in such manner and at such time and place as may be prescribed by regulations.

The quorum for a meeting of the Board shall be six directors, including at least three ex-officio directors.—APP
