KARACHI, Sept 20: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers’ Association on Wednesday reiterated that the struggle would continue against the ban on associations of government teachers and education employees in the province.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, SPLA President Prof Riaz Ahsan said despite the facts that government machinery had resorted to victimisation of teachers challenging the government’s notification of July 21st pertaining to the ban on teachers’ association activities.

He said, “We have been peaceful and rational in our approaches so far while the Sindh education department is provoking the community by taking illegal measures.” He said that society had also started condemning the department for its attempt to deprive the teachers and employees of their basic and constitutional right of forming associations.

Flanked by other senior office-bearers, Prof Liaquat A Solangi, Prof Manzoor Chishti, Prof Iftikhar and Prof Mirza Athar, the SPLA chief said that the entire teaching community was thankful to NGOs and professional organizations as well as the City Council of Karachi for extending support and standing by the stances and moves of teachers.

He warned the government should accept their demands by Sept 30, otherwise, they would be compelled to take extreme steps in the line of action to be given by the All Pakistan Professors and Lecturers’ Association.
