ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: Law minister Mohammad Wasi Zafar has said that no one could dictate the government on the issue of Women Rights Bill. Talking to Brad Adam, Human Rights Watch’s director for Asia, who had called on him at his office here on Tuesday, the minister said the government would not succumb to any pressure as for as laws related to the rights of women were concerned.
“We are a Muslim society and understand our problems more thoroughly than anyone else,” he told Mr Adam.
He said different stakeholders had floated different proposals for amendments to the Hudood ordinances and that did not mean that all those proposals would be incorporated into the law.
Mr Zafar also claimed that so far Hudood ordinances had not been implemented in Pakistan, because conditions here were not suitable for such laws, stated an official announcement.
He said the Women Protection Bill had not been shelved and it would be put before the Parliament in the next session.
