Performance satisfactory, says PBF chief

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Sept 12: Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) secretary Aamir Hayat Khan Rokri has claimed that performance of shuttlers in the 10th South Asian Games was satisfactory, keeping in view that India’sworld ranking is 10th.

Pakistan claimed six bronze medals in the games which were held in Colombo, Sri Lanka last month.

The secretary said winning a gold medal at the South Asian games was a hard task since India had total domination in badminton.

"We had to beat Indians in finals and semi-finals to claim gold or a silver medal which is not possible at this stage," the secretary said.

"The Indian Badminton Federation has a budget of Rs 100 million while the oil companies of India employ their top ten players on a salary of Indian Rupees 32,000 per month while here in Pakistan it is difficult to get our players a regular job of Rs 7,000," he said.

He said except badminton India were nowhere in the world in other games like football, squash, athletics, swimming and table tennis in which Pakistan claimed gold and silver medals.
