KARACHI, Sept 12: Shipping activity remained active at the port where two ships carrying containers were berthed at the QICT during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Tuesday.

Eight ships -- MOL Kauri, Sealand Independence, Nedlloyd Muscat, Explorer-1, Fareast Star, Madre, Temasek and Waikiki -– are currently occupying berths to load and offload containers, cement, sugar, edible oil and coke.

Cargo throughput stood at 59,811 tons comprising 42,905 tons import cargo and 16,906 tons export cargo inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 2,229 containers (TEUs).

Four ships, MSC Don Giovanni, MOL Kauri, Sealand Independence and Nedlloyd Muscat, sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours.

Two ships, CSAV Ningbo and ACX Marguerite, are expected to take berths on Tuesday. Container ship Santa Barbara is due to arrive on Tuesday, while CMA CGM Nilgai, Warbah and Kimberly with containers, diesel oil and coke are due to arrive on Wednesday.
