KARACHI: 89 conferred BDS degrees

KARACHI, Sept 8: As many as 89 BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgeons) graduates were conferred degrees on Friday at the 10th convocation of the Fatima Jinnah Dental College. Prof Syed Arshad Hussain, head of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Missouri, Columbia, USA, was the chief guest at the ceremony which attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Pirzada Qasim and senior professors of the Karachi University and academicians, besides parents of the graduates.

Hina Khalid Malik, declared best graduate of the college, was awarded gold medal with a cash award of Rs50,000. Nausheen Maqsood Ali was awarded silver medal with Rs30,000 cash reward and Narinder was awarded bronze medal with Rs20,000 cash reward.

They were also awarded Anis Begum Memorials medals for their outstanding academic performances.

A total of 91 distinctions were awarded to students whereas Role of Honours for getting highest marks was awarded to 16 students.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Arshad Hussain lauded the performance of students and teachers, and said they were now expected to provide the best care to the ailing humanity irrespective of gender, colour, caste, creed and status.

Prof Pirzada Qasim appreciated performance of the college and observed that its students had always been securing good positions. He said that there was a lack of research work in this country, and impressed upon students to come forward and join in the field.

Dr Essa Arain, Principal of the college, said that his institution had always met the challenges of latest developments in the field of dentistry.
