Industrial policy to be finalised by Oct 31

ISLAMABAD, Sep 6: Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jehangir Khan Tareen on Wednesday said that a comprehensive industrial policy envisaging essential requirements for industrialisation in the country would be finalised by October 31.

“We have also developed implementation mechanism institutions to implement the policy in true letter and spirit because the government believes in better results,” he said while addressing a press conference here.

He termed the national logistic corridor vital for development of various sectors and work was under way for better operation of various infrastructures like roads and ports.

He said the national vocational training authority headed by Altaf Saleem had also been formed for better skill development.

The ministry is focusing on various important clusters through analysing their value chain and a sector development company has been formed with 100 per cent ownership of the government, he said adding that experts from the private sector have been given a significant representation in its board of director.

A chairman from the private sector and officials from Smeda, ministries of finance and industries and other relevant departments have been given due representation on the board.

He said, “We are targeting dairy, jewellery and marble sectors and have devised comprehensive strategies to increase their output. In Darra Adam Khel we want to upgrade the clusters of 200 manufactures of hunting and sporting arms.”—APP
