KARACHI: Joint efforts urged to check ailments in South Asia
KARACHI, Aug 25: Sindh Health Secretary Prof Naushad A. Shaikh has underscored the need for close collaborative efforts among physicians and surgeons from across the country as well as those from South Asia to address ailments and diseases, registered with major commonalities in the region.
Speaking at the inaugural session of a three-day Colo-Rectal workshop, organised at the Surgical Ward-II of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on Friday, he said that keeping in view the socio-economic conditions of the masses it would be pertinent if health care professionals of South Asia developed a constant linkage amongst themselves and worked for the ailing humanity.
Prof Mumtaz Maher, the chief organiser of the event, said that the programme during the initial two days would include hands-on training workshop and live demonstration of surgical interventions to address the conditions related to piles, fistula and fissure.
On the third day, Dr Ladha would perform rectal colon surgery, he said mentioning that workshop is aimed at improving surgical skills of local professionals with major focus on post-operative care of the patient.
JPMC Executive Director Prof Mashoor Alam said that the hospital, a major tertiary care facility in the metropolis, was keen to initiate such programmes to help improve capacities of medical professionals of the country.
Dr Ladha expressed hope that such an exchange of professionals would be turned into a regular feature.--APP
