BEIJING, Aug 20: Pakistan and China have deepened their cooperation to combat drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes.

According to the China National Narcotics Control Commission, the two countries maintained close contacts at official level to review drug control arrangements.

The measures taken recently proved effective to check illegal drug trade through land, air and sea routs.

Relevant agencies of the two countries are working on regular basis to keep check on the source of drug smuggling.

The two sides have committed to continue supporting each other through exchange of information and tightening law-enforcing measures. In this connection, the two countries have agreed to step up efforts to implement a Memorandum of Understanding singed in 1996.

Sources told APP that China had also reinforced anti-drug information exchange and law-enforcement cooperation with other countries, including Afghanistan, so as to strike international drug-related crimes.

China’s legislature – Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) – will consider the draft of a new anti-drug law during a six-day legislative session, which will begin on Aug 22.

Both the countries will take all necessary precautions to control drug trafficking and break drug trafficking rings.—APP
