KARACHI, Aug 20: Fancied five-year-old chestnut Dil Phaink lived up to his top billing when he returned with flying colours to grab honours at the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

He edged out three-year-old bay filly Queen Of Mirwa to post a facile four-length victory in a time of 1 min 3 3/5 sec with jockey Mohammad Essa astride.

By accomplishing the feat he atoned to the loss which he suffered at the hands of mare Countess Mah Again in the KRC Cup on Independence Day.

Essa completed his double when he piloted home Dil Phaink’s stable-mate and public fancy Yes Neighbour Yes by a wide margin of 11 lengths in the concluding race.

The winning streak of Yes Neighbour Yes was interrupted by King Of Sanghar in the Fantastic Face Stakes last Monday.

Four-year-old bay colt Jawan Bakht finished second and was followed by Adaab Arz in the third place. Gullu’s Government completed the frame.

Six-year-old bay mare Velvet Green pulled off an upset when she returned victorious by overcoming fancied Countess Mah Again and Abhi Abhi.

Outsiders reigned supreme in the first four races of the day by getting the better of favourites.

Un-fancied mare Fizza picked up spoils in the five furlongs opener beating Gold Tip by three quarter of a length. Chestnut Yanga who was installed favourite in the field of 13 horses, had to be content with third slot.Similarly, Tom Cruise created quite a stir when he outpaced public fancy Jaguar by three lengths in the next race. At least six riders were penalised for ‘unsatisfactory riding’.

Nine-year-old dark bay horse Chand Aya with Fahim K in the saddle made it two-in-a-row when he romped home by two and a half lengths beating fancied Fight For Fame, New Ferrari and Silver City. The latter even finished off the board.

In the absence of filly Miss Milee chestnut Champion Express sprinted to two lengths victory beating favourite filly Annaba.

Miss Milee was withdrawn before start of the race which was followed by re-betting.
