KARACHI, Aug 20: People were faced with intermittent power failures in their localities on Sunday. However, the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation claimed that most of the cable faults, developed soon after the Thursday rainfall, had been rectified and the affected areas were energised.
They maintained that the faults in some localities, which were still under rainwater or sewage, could not be removed but as soon as the water receded, the repair work would be initiated.
They said that complaints of power failures in Korangi No.2 ½ had piled up and the KESC staff was entertaining the complaints.
Residents of various localities complained that uninterrupted power supply was not restored to their houses.
A consumer from Block-14, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, said that the power supply remained suspended for more than two hours early in the morning forcing the residents to wake up.
A consumer from Block 4-A, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, said that the electricity played hide-and-seek the whole night compelling residents of the locality to spend a sleepless night.
An irate consumer from Nazimabad No.4 said that the power supply was disrupted twice during the night and twice in the day for two to three hours each.
An angry citizen from Block-12, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, said that the KESC had made life of the area people miserable as its weak distribution system could not withstand a light shower, moderate temperature, fog or any other change in weather conditions.
Even the private management was doing nothing to improve the fragile KESC system, he wondered.
