Constable killed in encounter

SIALKOT, Aug 12: A constable was killed in an encounter with robbers in Hajipura here early on Saturday morning.

Reports said that six armed robbers intercepted a car and were busy looting the family when a police patrol party reached there. On seeing police, the bandits in panic tried to escape but they ended up in a closed street. Bandits opened fire when they saw police on their hunt, killing constable Muhammad Shahid on the spot. Later, the bandits escaped from the scene while resorting to aerial firing.

Police have registered a case against the dacoits-cum-killers.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of the deceased constable, attended by a large number of people from all walks of life, were held at the Sialkot Police Lines. Later, he was laid to rest in his native graveyard.

LOOTED: Armed bandits on Saturday looted hundreds of thousands of rupees in three different incidents in Sialkot district.

Two gunmen deprived Irfan Cheema of Rs175,000 in cash when he was on his way home after drawing the money from an HBL’s branch in Aadamkey Cheema village in Daska.

As many armed robbers snatched Rs300,000 in cash from trader Muhammad Sarwar. He was also going to his factory after drawing the cash from HBL’s Paris Road branch in Dara Arayian, Sialkot.

In Begowala village, Sambrial, three armed bandits snatched a loader vehicle from a Shakargarh-based driver Muhammad Younas.

Police have registered separate cases with no arrest.

HANGED TO DEATH: An unknown young girl was hanged to death on Saturday by unidentified assailant(s) in Jethikey village, Sambrial.

Reports said that the accused after killing the girl threw her body into Nullah Palkhu. Local villagers recovered the body and reported the matter to the police.

Sambrial police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, trader Shafiqur Rehman poisoned to death his wife Ghazala over some domestic issue in Model Town, Uggoki. The deceased was the mother of two children.

Uggoki police have instituted a case.
