Mosque fire

LONDON, Aug 12: British police refused on Saturday to rule out the possibility that a fire which destroyed the roof of a mosque was a revenge arson attack following the alleged plot to blow up US-bound aircraft leaving British airports.

“In this current climate, we cannot rule out the possibility that this incident is related to the recent security threat,” a police official said.

Sixteen fire-fighters took almost two hours to put out the fire at the Al-Birr mosque in the town of Basingstoke, south-eastern England, which was reported to them on Saturday.—AFP
