Suicide blast in Baghdad kills 32, injures 65 BAGHDAD, July 23 (AFP) A suicide bomber struck a blow against Iraq's fledgling peace process on Sunday, killing at least 32 people and injuring 65 others in a crowded Baghdad market. The attacker struck in Sadr City district at 9:20 am (0520 GMT), detonating an explosives-laden minibus in the middle of a crowd and scattering bloodied corpses among devastated market stalls. On Sunday, two civilians were gunned down in separate attacks in the Baquba region north of Baghdad. Further north, in Moqtadiya, four persons who were kidnapped on Saturday were found murdered, according to the interior minister. In a separate incident in Ramadi, 100 kilometres west of Baghdad, Iraqi soldiers were fired on from a mosque with rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles, a coalition statement said. The soldiers later entered the mosque, arrested two suspects and found a small cache of guns and bomb-making equipment. (Posted @ 14:00 PST) 11 more deaths push Lebanon's toll from Israeli attacks to 361 BEIRUT, July 23, (AFP) - The deaths of 11 more people in Israeli attacks Sunday raised the total number of people killed in Lebanon since the start of the conflict to 361, according to police and medics. Almost all those killed Sunday were in the south, where Israel is maintaining fierce bombardments of villages. Seven civilians died near the main southern town of Tyre, including a 23-year-old female freelance photographer. The others were three people killed when an Israeli missile blew up their minibus that was part of a Red Cross convoy, two people killed when another missile destroyed their house, and a civilian was killed in the bombardment of another house. Hezbollah said it lost three more of its fighters in the south, bringing to 16 the total number of guerrillas killed since the start of Israel's offensive on July 12. One civilian died in eastern Lebanon, an air strike on a factory near the town of Baalbek, police said. Syria says will step in if Lebanon invaded DAMASCUS, July 23, (AFP) - Syria issued a stark warning Sunday that an Israeli invasion of Lebanon would drag it into the spiralling Middle East conflict and called for an immediate ceasefire. "If Israel makes a land entry into Lebanon, they can get to within 20 kilometres (12 miles) of Damascus," Information Minister Moshen Bilal told the Spanish newspaper ABC. "What will we do? Stand by with our arms folded? Absolutely not. Without any doubt Syria will intervene in the conflict." The minister criticised the United States saying that it was "unjustifiable" that "the superpower is not working for a rapid ceasefire." No US troops are likely to be in the force, which according to a US media report could be between 10,000 and 20,000 strong and led by a contingent from France or Turkey. There could be delicate questions, however, over whether the force's mission is to disarm Hezbollah or to support the Lebanese army's efforts to take control in the south of the country. The rockets, the latest salvos in a deluge of around 1,000 rocket attacks to hit Israel since cross-border violence flared on July 12, hit several districts of Haifa, AFP reporters in the city said. Trishul, which was last tested in December, is designed for use by the army, airforce and the navy and can carry a 15-kilogram (33-pound) conventional warhead up to nine kilometers (5.5 miles). It was tested from the Chandipur-on-Sea range, officials said though they declined to say whether the test was successful or not. The missile has previously been flight-tested in a sea-skimming role and also against land-based and airborne targets.
