KARACHI, July 16: The city district government, in collaboration with the provincial government, will set up seven polytechnic institutes during current financial year.

According to sources, these new polytechnic institutes, which will cost around Rs600 million, will be constructed at Sachal Goth, Azam Basti, Korangi, Surjani, North Karachi, North Nazimabad and Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Besides, a number of other technical education institutes which were to be constructed long time ago at Lyari’s Singho Lane, New Karachi, Saudabad, Landhi’s Babar Market and Razzakabad but could not be completed owing to bureaucratic wrangling would also be accomplished during the current fiscal year at an estimated cost of Rs300 million, the sources added.

In addition to these colleges, four other colleges which are currently being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs250 million would also be completed shortly.

Referring to the city government’s plan of introducing degree classes in six colleges, the sources said the CDGK has already initiated work of constructing additional blocks for the purpose and the colleges where degree classes would be introduced include North Nazimabad’s Abdullah Colege, Karimabad’s APWA Girls College, Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Girls college, Lyari College and Degree College of Orangi 11 ½.

About the city’s first public sector cadet college which the city government intends to set up in Gadap, sources said 100 acres of land had already been acquired.
