PESHAWAR: Cyber-cafes raided for illegal phone service

PESHAWAR, July 13: Two international mini-gateway exchanges were seized and two persons operating cyber-cafes were arrested in Hayatabad on Thursday, an official said.

The two internet cafes were providing illegal international dialling facilities through net-to-phone system to clients, mostly Afghan refugees, causing huge losses to the national exchequer.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had been monitoring the Voice-over-Internet (VOI) at two internet cafes in Phase-III and Bisharat market of the township for a couple of weeks, said Assistant Director Akhtar Zaman.

He said that the Federal Investigation Agency’s crime circle team raided Ziad Internet Cafe and Kabul Internet Cafe and arrested their owners, Mr Ziad and Mr Fahim, adding that computers and other equipment were also seized.—Correspondent
