KARACHI: Tankers ruin roads near Muslimabad Hydrant
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, June 20: Almost all streets of Muslimabad and a major road leading to Society Office and Khudadad Colony from the Quaid’s mausoleum have suffered devastation owing to frequent movement of tankers drawing water from the Rangers-manned Muslimabad Hydrant.
Hundreds of tankers get water from both the hydrant and have ruined a major portion of the New M A Jinnah Road from Islamia Science College to Jail traffic intersection. A track of the road has recently been reconstructed by the city government while work on another track is currently under way.
Tanker drivers have not only caused extensive damage to the Dadabhoy Narouji Road and the New M A Jinnah Road, and other nearby streets, they are posing a threat to motorists as they enter both roads while driving in a rash and negligent manner.
Tankers coming from the opposite direction on New M A Jinnah Road and crossing the road from the Islamia Science College side often pose a danger of a head-on collision with vehicles passing through the road either towards the Quaid’s mausoleum or to Jail traffic intersection.
Though people residing in Muslimabad and nearby Shikarpur Colony have off and on urged the authorities concerned to shift the hydrants to some other location, their requests have, so far, not been given any attention.
Residents of Muslimabad stated that they are concerned over parking of vehicles along boundary walls of their bungalows.
“Presence of such a large number of tankers in our residential areas, on the one hand, causes slippery conditions on streets and, on the other, creates unhygienic conditions,” an elderly person of the locality remarked.
