KARACHI, June 15: A major portion faced power outage on Thursday morning after an extra high-tension line of 132-kilovolts, carrying power from the KDA grid to Gulistan-e-Jauhar grid, snapped.

"Our guards patrolling the area spotted a suspicious vehicle near Sabzi Mandi on the Super Highway. As they tried to approach them, the unidentified persons escaped with a 100-yard-long piece of copper wire," a spokesman for the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation said.

He said that the KESC officials had filed a complaint in the Sachal police station the wire thieves.

The power supply to Liaquatabad, Federal B Area, Civic Centre, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, North Nazimabad and Nazimabad grid stations was suspended because of the broken power line at around 4:15am.

The spokesman said that the power was restored to the affected areas after 30 minutes. KESC staff completed the repair work on the broken power supply line by 6pm after which the power supply to the affected areas was normalised.

However, people from various areas complained of prolonged breakdowns.
