Penalty imposed on 32 sugar mills

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 10: The Monopoly Control Authority (MCA) has imposed a penalty ranging between Rs10,000 to Rs40,000 on 32 sugar mills for providing either incomplete or no data about production, lifting and ex-factory price of sugar.

An announcement issued here on Saturday by the MCA said that a penalty of Rs10,000 was imposed individually on 20 sugar mills for providing incomplete data about production, lifting and ex-factory price of sugar.

A penalty of Rs20,000 each was imposed on other six sugar mills for non-submission of data to the authority. However, their representatives appeared before the authority and promised supply of fortnightly statements.

While another six sugar mills neither submitted the fortnightly statement nor appeared before the authority to explain non-submission of information.

This led to a penalty of Rs40,000 on each of these six mills, added the announcement.

The MCA has started collecting information from the mills and from the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) fortnightly statements. The PSMA, a registered association of 70 mills, of which 37 are in Punjab, 28 in Sindh and 5 in NWFP, had been compiling and sending fortnightly reports on cane crushed and sugar produced/lifted to the concerned ministries.
