Asghar outguns Bhagwan to level series

KARACHI, May 20: Home team captain Asghar Ali Shah kept home hopes alive in Pakistan-India Friendship boxing series when he outpunched Jai Bhagwan in the second bout on Saturday at KPT Sports Complex.

Olympian Asghar displayed brilliant jabs and left hooks to outclass his opponent 32-11 in a one-sided clash in the lightweight category to take the series into the third and deciding bout on Sunday.

Jai Bhagwan was never allowed by Asghar to settle down who scored freely and won on everyone’s score.

India deservedly took 1-0 lead when their skipper Parvinder Singh outpointed Nadir Khan in a middleweight category on Friday.

With Asghar's triumph, the series between the two rivals stands 1-1 and will be decided after the third and final bout between home favourite Asian gold medallist Mehruallah Lassi and Dewakar Prasad of India on Sunday.—Agencies
