National softball from June 16

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, May 20: The National softball championship will be held in Islamabad from June 16 to 20. The newly elected senior vice president of Softball Federation of Pakistan Khalid Iqbal Khan said in a press conference on Saturday.

He said that the women’s championship will be held in Karachi in September.

The decisions were taken in the first general body meeting held after separating softball from baseball federation on the instructions of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).

Earlier, baseball and softball were working under one federation (Pakistan Baseball and Softball Federation).

The POA had granted affiliation to baseball on the condition to exclude softball.

Khalid said that softball federation would soon apply for POA's affiliation as it was fulfilling all the terms and conditions.

"We have three departments namely, Wapda, HEC and Police and four provinces besides Islamabad, therefore, we are completing all formalities for applying for affiliation," he said.

The general body that also elected the new body of the federation appointed Khalid as acting president till the election of a regular president.

The general body also appointed Khawer Shah, ex-secretary of the joint baseball and softball federation, as executive director on honorary basis to look after the affairs of the office.

Khalid said that the decision was taken as Mr Shah had been dealing with affairs and continuity was necessary.
