ARD submits motion against minister

ISLAMABAD, May 20: Three members of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) have submitted a privilege motion to the National Assembly Secretariat against Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon for allegedly making a misstatement on the floor of the house during a debate on the issue of oil prices.

ARD parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi told Dawn that the motion had been submitted by Ch Nisar Ali Khan of thePML-N and Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Raja Pervez Ashraf of the PPP.

The motion has been submitted under Rule 78 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992.

The ARD members in their motion state that during a discussion on the issue of increase in prices of petroleum products in the last session of the National Assembly, ended on May 5, the federal minister for petroleum and natural resources and the parliamentary secretary stated on the floor of the house that the government had “sustained a sum of $68 billion as subsidy.”
