SUKKUR, May 20: The Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has rejected new taxes the taluka council has proposed to levy new taxes on industrial units, which it says are already paying a host of taxes and any new tax may prove a last straw.
In a meeting held on Friday, the chamber observed that the trade and industrial units were already paying professional tax, property tax and sales tax. The provincial government return the 60 to 80 per cent of these taxes to taluka council each year, the meeting says.
The meeting presided over by SCCI president, Khalid Mehmood Khan, said that the taluka had failed to provide basic civic amenities to people.
Another reason why the SCCI considered it unjustified for taluka council to levy new taxes or revise the existing ones was the fact the Sindh chief minister had recently declared Sukkur as “calamity-hit area”, it argued.
