KARACHI: ‘Issue of power cuts to be raised in senate’

KARACHI, May 1: The parliamentary leader of the Democratic Alliance in Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani, has said that the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) stands exposed before the people as the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has denied KESC’s claim of reduced power supply.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr Rabbani who is also the deputy secretary-general of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), criticised the power utility for misleading the Karachiites and the persistent loadshedding in the city and said the issue would be raised in the Senate on May 12.

He said that the privatisation of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation had plunged the city into the worst electricity crisis in its history and its foreign owners had failed to deliver and as a consequence all the residential areas of the city were facing power breakdowns of over six hours which was also affecting the water supply.

These breakdowns have now started to affect the industrial areas and if this situation persists they will not be able to meet the export targets, he said, adding that it was the real economic and political agenda of the financial imperialists to cripple Pakistan economically, he added.-—PPI
