Musharraf, Aziz vow to improve workers’ lot

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, April 30: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have renewed the government’s commitment to improve the lot of workers in the country and urged them to step up efforts for socio-economic development of Pakistan.

In their separate messages on May Day, the president and the prime minister assured the workers that the government was committed to the cause of labour and taking steps to improve their economic conditions.

President Musharraf in his message reaffirmed his belief in the dignity of labour and expressed resolve to create a work culture mutually beneficial (for employees and employers) and ideologically based on the principles of Islam.

He said good labour-management relations had played a vital role in maximizing production, making the country one of the fastest growing economies of the world.

The prime minister in his message said that the country’s assiduous labour force had proactively participated in all economic endeavours in recent years.

Mr Aziz said that the government was alive to the needs and aspirations of workers.
