Harmison out of ODIs

MUMBAI, March 20: England strike bowler Steve Harmison on Monday was ruled out of the upcoming one-day series in India due to a shin injury. “He is going back and has been replaced with Matthew Hoggard in the one-day squad,” said England media manager Andrew Walpole.

Harmison, who bowled just four overs in the second innings of the second Test at Mohali, pulled out of the ongoing third and final Test here due to the injury.

“He is still experiencing pain in his right shin and with the Test series against Sri Lanka due to start in early May, we have decided that the safest course of action is to rest him,” chief medical officer Peter Gregory told England cricket’s official website.

Harmison is the third England cricketer to return home from the current tour due to injury after regular captain Michael Vaughan and paceman Simon Jones. Left-handed opener Marcus Trescothick also left the squad before the Test series for personal reasons.—AFP
