Two traders robbed of Rs1.3m

GUJRANWALA, March 20: An industrialist and a scrap dealer were robbed in separate incidents here on Monday. Industrialist Amir Sohail was on his way after withdrawing Rs700,000 from a bank on GT Road by a motorcycle. When he reached Model Town two motorcyclists intercepted him. They snatched the cash at gunpoint and escaped.

Scrap dealer Haji Ijaz of Wapda Town withdrew Rs590,000 from a bank and was going along with his brother on Sheikhupura Road by a motorcycle when two motorcyclists deprived them of the cash on Madni Road.

Meanwhile, secondary school headmaster Muhammad Ashfaq and Muhammad Ibrahim were deprived of their motorcycles and mobile phones in the Baghbanpura area.

GANG BUSTED: Sabzi Mandi police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of dacoits in a raid and recovered five stolen motorcycles, 12 mobile phones, Rs135,000 in cash and illicit arms from their possession.

Police arrested them from their hideout on a tip off.

LAWYERS’ THREAT: The District Bar Association gave seven days deadline for the arrest of the killers of Advocate Nadim Abbas Alvi and threatened that they would go on strike if the accused were not arrested.

A resolution was adopted at a DBA meeting presided over by president Ilyas Rehan condemning the murder of a colleague.

ILLEGAL DETENTION: A bailiff raided Sodara police station and recovered two brothers Latif and Riaz who were confined without registration of any case against them and produced before court on Monday.

The court freed both the detainees and ordered registration of a case against investigating officer SI Muhammad Iqbal.
