GUJRANWALA, March 20: There is no let-up in the suffering of commuters across the province as the traffic police and other government departments continued impounding the public transport vehicles on Monday to carry PML activists to Lahore to participate in March 23 convention.
In Gujranwala, scores of buses and wagons plying on GT Road between Gujranwala and Ghakkhar town besides other branch routes were impounded.
Reports said that the traffic police and officials of the regional transport authority, motor vehicle examiner and other officers of government departments established pickets on almost all major city roads. They forcibly got evacuated vehicles from passengers and later impounded them at the Police Lines and other places.
Almost all compounds of police stations are packed to capacity with the impounded public transport vehicles. While hundreds of commuters, including women and children, remained stranded at bus and wagon stands.
Some passengers said that they were going to participate in funeral prayers of one of their relatives in the suburban area when the traffic police forced them to vacate vehicles.
JHANG: Preparations of PML activists are in full swing amid severe criticism by several political and religious leaders for the massive inconvenience being caused to the general public as the police and district government continued impounding buses.
Around 100 buses will be arranged to provide a comfortable journey to ruling party workers to Lahore.
This was stated by the Jhang district nazim after attending a meeting of MNAs, MPAs and the district administration in his office.
The district nazim said that each bus would be accompanied by a patwari and a union council secretary who would be responsible for arranging meals for workers.
Surprisingly, PML’s own district secretary-general Safdar Saleem Sial in a letter to the party’s Punjab president had also lashed out at the way the general public was being given inconvenience. He termed the mega event a sheer waste of precious time and money.
He suggested that the party’s district and tehsil organisations should be directed to hold seminars in their respective areas to educate masses on matters of national interest.
SIALKOT: Light rain added to the miseries of commuters as impounding of buses and wagons by the traffic police continued in Sialkot and Narowal districts on the second consecutive day.
Hundreds of people were found stranded at bus and wagons stands in the two districts.
The people have strongly protested against the district government for impounding public transport vehicles. They also chanted slogans against the government.
SAHIWAL: The traffic police have started taking into custody buses and wagons here causing inconvenience to commuters.
Most of the owners have withdrawn their vehicles from almost all routes. Among the worst-sufferers were the women and children commuters.
Reports said that the traffic police had impounded more than 100 buses and wagons in Sahiwal and 56 in Chichawatni.
