People holding jirga, karo-kari killers to be punished
KARACHI, March 20: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui has said that action will be taken against holders of jirga and murderers of women on the pretext of karo-kari. “The jirga system stands abolished in Sindh and it will be unlawful to run a system parallel to judicial system of country” he said at a press conference at his office on Monday.
“The action will be taken under the law in case any jirga is held and it gave any verdict anywhere in the province from now on”, he said.
Mr Siddiqui categorically stated that Town/Taluka police officer concerned would be arrested if any incident of making a person to pass barefoot over a path of embers or such other inhuman acts were reported in his jurisdiction.
He said that bloodshed in the name of inhuman tradition of karo-kari would not be allowed and in case the accused involved in such killings were not arrested immediately, the DPO concerned would be questioned.
He claimed that gambling dens, drug dens and quacks would be wiped out in the province and added that the police officers from Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Ghotki and other districts have reported that such vice dens no more exist there.
“We now plan to send special teams of police to investigate the actual position so that action could be taken against the officials if any false report was submitted,” he said.
The home minister said that the police force had been high alerted across the province for maintaining peace on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain on March 21.
He said that a number of decisions would soon be made for the welfare of policemen according to which their children would be given 75 per cent discount in fee from the primary to the university level.
A summery in this respect would soon be moved, he said.
