PO shot in encounter

GUJRAT, Feb 24: A proclaimed offender was shot dead by Tanda police in an encounter near Marri Khokharan on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, a police party led by the Tanda police station SHO conducted a raid at a hideout for the arrest of PO Saeed Butt alias Bila. On seeing police, the outlaw opened fire which was returned.

The crossfire that continued for more than an hour left the ‘wanted man’ dead. Police recovered a Kalashnikov from the site of encounter. Bila was wanted in a number of murder cases by the Jalalpur Jattan police.

CRIME: Robbers deprived a man of Rs23,000 in cash and took away a costly VCD system from a car in two incidents in Lalamusa on Friday.

Two armed men stopped Safdar at gunpoint and snatched Rs23,000 in cash on the Railway Road near Karimpura. Meanwhile, thieves stole VCD player from a car (LXG-90) in the same area.

No case was registered till last reports came in.
