Polo: Kamran shines for Friends

LAHORE, Feb 20: Back-to-back goals by Kamran Nooruddin helped Friends beat Jeuni 6- 5 1/2 on the first day of Nurpur Low Goal Polo Cup at the LPC on Monday. Jeuni led the first chukker 2 1/2-2, by virtue of a half-goal handicap.

Three-goal Hassan Ali Farrukh and Raja Amer Khan struck a goal each for Jeuni. Sufi Muhammad Haris hit both goals for Friends. In the second chukker Kamran put Friends ahead 4-3 1/2 by scoring two. Ameer scored one for the losers.

In the third chukker, Hassan salvaged the 5 1/2-4 lead for Jeuni converting a 30 and 40-yard penalty hit with lofted shots. But Kamran turned the table over them scoring two in a row to complete the tally. No goal was scored in the fourth chukker.

Three goals by Azam Hayat Noon and Feroze Gulzar, each propelled Nurpur Whites to a convincing 8-4 1/2 win over Big International. A hat trick by Omar Asjad Malhi gave Big International, who had half-goal handicap, a good start 3 1/2-0) but later on Nurpur dominated all the remaining chukkers to complete a big win.

Besides Azam and Feroze the other scorers for the winners were Tanvir Tariq and Junaid Ahmed, who struck a goal each. For the losers Moin Yaqub scored the remaining one goal.

Four-goal Nauman Wasif and three by Kamran Zaidi steered Technimen to a big 10-3 win over Harvester/Punjab Rangers.

Bilal Haider Agha (2) and Afzal Mahr (1) were the other scorers.

For the losers, who had two-goal handicap, the solitary goal came from Ali Malik.
