PAF retain ski trophy

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Pakistan Air Force clinched the 14th National Ski Championship trophy at the final round of events at Naltar, Gilgit on Sunday. The championship commenced on February 17.

About 100 skiers of 12 ski associations including Sindh, NWFP, Punjab, Balochistan, Islamabad, Northern Areas, Adventure Foundation, Army, Navy and PAF participated in the championship.

There was a close contest between Army and PAF.

The contest was staged in three categories of Alpine Skiing — Slalom, Giant Slalom and Supper ‘G’.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Ehsanul Haq, was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony.

Gen Haq announced a grant of Rs1 million for Ski Federation of Pakistan, also urging the organisation to develop another ski resort in the country.

He lauded the efforts of Ski Federation for promoting skiing in Pakistan and advised all the skiers to continue working hard for achieving good position at international level.

He also advised the Federation to develop more ski slopes in addition to those already functioning at Malam Jabba and Naltar.

He said that SPF should make firm efforts to make this game accessible for all who are interested in it all over the country.

He also announced that a new Ski championship named “Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Cup” would be started and all expenses would be borne by Pakistan Army.

Earlier, President SFP Air Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed, Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, presented report of the activities of Ski Federation of Pakistan.
