KARACHI: Security plan for ODI outlined

KARACHI, Feb 18: A central control room has been set up at the National Stadium under the supervision of senior police officers to coordinate, monitor and supervise security arrangements during the fifth and final one-day match between Pakistan and India on Sunday.

Officials at the control room will keep monitoring the areas in and around the stadium through secretly installed cameras.

Besides, from the start till the end of the match, commandos of the Elite Force and additional deployments police officers and jawans, and the staff of the bomb disposal squad will remain present in the stadium.

The Inspector General Police, Jehangir Mirza, during a briefing on the security plan chalked out for the ODI, was informed that at least 50 pickets had been set up on the routes from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the stadium besides deployment of police for surveillance from the rooftops of 50 selected buildings as well as deployment of plain-clothed police.

The steps taken under the security plan have been divided into three sectors — the airport, staying place of teams and the national stadium — each sector being supervised by the respective TPOs.

Similarly, the National Stadium has been divided into five zones with a SP rank police officer being in-charge of each zone.

The IG was informed that commandos of the Elite Force will remain in motion along with teams on their movement under the supervision of Col (Retd) Wahid Khan. He will also be monitoring the security of internal sections of the hotel where the guest teams will be staying.

The IG was told that appropriate parking arrangements had been made to facilitate the people and a comprehensive traffic plan had been prepared for maintaining traffic flow.

Reviewing the security plan, the IG directed the CCPO Karachi to ensure strict implementation of security arrangements for cricket teams, local and foreign guests and the spectators.

He told them to remain in constant touch with the Rangers and ensure that no problems were faced by media representatives during the match.—APP
