KARACHI, Feb 12: Private water tankers had a field day on Sunday as several parts of six towns where a 48-hour water closure was applied by the KWSB to undertake some development works at Pipri pumping station remained dry on the third consecutive day on Sunday.
Though the 48-hour water closure, applied by the KWSB in six towns and five major installations of the city at 8am on Friday, was scheduled to be over by 8am on Sunday, water supply to several localities of the affected towns could not be restored till Sunday evening.
The localities and vital installations where supply was suspended for 48 hours included Shah Faisal, Malir, Korangi, Landhi and Bin Qasim towns, DHA, Jinnah Terminal, Port Qasim, National Refinery, Korangi Thermal Power station and their adjoining areas.
However, a KWSB official claimed that development works for which the supply was suspended and which included replacement of some parts of 54 and 72 inch-dia pipelines and the 100-mgd K-III project had been completed and supply to all affected areas had been restored.
Inquiries made in this regard from some independent sources showed that though water supply had been restored to the affected parts of six towns whose turn of getting the supply was Sunday but as far as the remaining localities of the affected towns were concerned they would be supplied water on their turn i.e. Monday.
Complaints of acute water shortage were also received from residents of Khokarapar, Model Colony, Clifton’s Block 2, Mehmoodabad, Shah Faisal, Landhi, Korangi and Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 13-D.
