Mujahid’s three goals in vain

LAHORE, Feb 8: A three-goal burst in the third chukker enabled Guard Rice (GR) to beat Waste Buster Army (WBA) 6- 4 1/2 in the Nurpur Cup polo on Wednesday. WBA had 1 1/2 goal handicap and led the first chukker 2 1/2-1. Mujahid Omar Khan converted a spot penalty near the goalpost to open the scoring. Taimur Ali Malik replied for GR.

WBA’s lead has been reduced to half goal (3 1/2-3) in the second chukker as Dhruvpal Godara converted 40 and 30-yard penalty hits for the winners. Mujahid scored his second also converting 40-yard penalty.

In the third chukker WBA increased the lead to 4 1/2-3 as Mujahid slammed his third goal through a 40- yard penalty. But GR staged great recovery scoring three goals through Godara, Taimur Ali Malik and Iftikhar Ali Khan Simba to complete the scoring as no goal was scored in the fourth chukker.

Four goals by Asif Tiwana and three by Ahmed Ali Tiwana propelled Candyland to 9-4 1/2 win over Master Paints. Ahmed and Asif dominated the first chukker scoring three goals as the winners had eliminated the 1- 1/2 goal handicap advantage of the losers to forge ahead 3- 1 1/2. Ahmed scored first on solo effort while Asif doubled the lead scoring from a field attempt after a long chase.

Ahmed fired his second field goal as Candyland forged ahead. The winners upheld the supremacy in the second chukker, too with 5- 3 1/2 lead as both the teams scored two goals apiece. Ahmed struck his third for the winners while Vishal Singh his solitary of the match.

For losers, Sufi Muhammad Aamir and Hussain Iftikhar added a goal each. The winners accelerated the pace of attack to further increase the lead 7-4 1/2 in the third chukker as Asif banged home back-to-back goals.

Aamir slammed in a goal for the losers which proved the last one for them. In the fourth chukker, Asif netted his fourth goal while Tanvir Tariq netted his firs goal to complete the scoring.
